On November 23, 2019, the “TUTO Junior School” in Busesa, Eastern Uganda, was officially inaugurated.
The kindergarten marks the first step of the campus, which will eventually expand to include a primary school and a boarding facility.
The opening ceremony, attended by over 200 guests—including local leaders, parents, association members, and students—began with a Catholic Mass and a prayer from the local Imam. This was followed by a speech from TUTO co-founder Geofrey Gonahasa, who emphasized, “Our mission is to provide disadvantaged children with access to quality education, which would otherwise be out of reach for them.” The children are supported within their existing family structures, which is why the organization places great emphasis on close collaboration with parents, involving them through regular meetings and training sessions.
In the coming years, the campus will be expanded to include a primary school with an adjoining boarding facility. There are also plans to provide further training and workshops for the community to make the best use of the infrastructure and actively involve local residents. This includes the Swarovski Waterschool program, which will become part of TUTO Junior School, aiming to educate students and the local community on water conservation and hygiene practices.
